Volunteering Makes a Difference!
After you become a member of GADA Canada consider Volunteering. Our volunteers across Canada help spread critical awareness of genetic aortic disorders (GAD) and the Association, raise funds to support our programs and provide personal support to many who are just learning about the condition.
If you are interested in any of the following volunteer opportunities or have a special skill or interest that may help the Association please contact us toll free at 1-866-722-1722 or 905-826-3223 or by email at info@gadacanada.ca
Here are several ways you can help:
Fundraising
Plan an event in your community and raise funds and awareness of GAD. Ideas for events include dances, golf tournaments, walk-a-thons, garage sales, or bake & craft sales.
Our wristbands can also be sold as part of school fundraisers and our coin canisters & brochures help spread awareness & raise funds in local shops in your community.
Telephone Support Volunteer
A Telephone Support Volunteer understands GAD and provides support, answering questions by phone to those looking for more information about the different disorders in their local area.
Public Awareness Volunteer
Spread awareness of GAD by having an information booth in your local mall or library, plan an exhibit at your local hospital, place posters on information boards at your workplace and around your neighbourhood or participate in one of the many other activities mentioned in this section. National Marfan Awareness Week is the third week in November and we invite you, your friends and family to join other volunteers across Canada to plan activities during this important week and help others learn about Marfan syndrome.
Publicity Volunteer
Help us put the different genetic aortic disorders in the media by writing articles for local and national newspapers, arranging TV & radio segments, and by writing and distributing press releases.
Emergency Medicine Volunteer
Speak to your physician about the distribution of this important video “Emergency Diagnosis and Treatment of Aortic Dissection” in your local hospital.
Youth Awareness Campaign Volunteer
Organize a meeting with your local schools introducing the “How do Your Genes Fit” video and Teacher’s Booklet to raise awareness and promote early diagnosis of children with Marfan syndrome and other genetic aortic disorders.
Medical Conference Volunteer
Help us host a successful Medical Conference when it comes to your city in Canada. Volunteers can help advertise the event, staff the registration table, prepare conference folders and solicit local corporate support.
